Swinging

Imagine you have your nice small network setup using Microsoft's Small Business Server and you are running out of disk space or the server is getting a bit old. On this server you have your exchange data, sharepoint, file stores, everything basically. You then decide to buy a new server to replace but want to keep your install, server name, databases, shares etc?

Exchange 2007 on VMWare

I recently had the nice job of installing Exchange 2007 onto a VMWare esxi server As much as I like Exchange I am not a very big fan of the over complexness of Exchange 2007 so I knew I would be in for a nice treat doing this.

This was quite a unique install for me as the whole Exchange 2007 was going to be on one virtual machine using just the local disks in the esxi server.

I had read reports that the ideal way to do this is to install the OS onto the virtual machine and then put the exchange datastore onto external storgage using iScsi or an FC San.

Business Case for Apple iPhone

As an avid user of mobile email I have over the years used various devices. I started with a Windows Mobile 5 O2 XDA II and then moved to an O2 XDA Mini. Whilst both of these used Active Sync to get my Microsoft Exchange email, the user experience wasn't very pleasing. The devices where slow and at the time data costs where quite expensive.

I've now been using iPhone OS 3.0 for a week or so which is officially released today. Here is a quick recap of the new email and Exchange specific functions.

After having used push email on devices for several years now across multiple devices (Windows Mobile 6 + Symbian 60) I can safely say email on the iPhone is, in my opinion, the best so far! Even comparing the iPhone to the newly released Blackberry Storm, the iPhone still works out cheaper as it works out of the box with Exchange 2003 & 2007 and no expensive additions are needed like Blackberry enterprise server.
